I'm Matt Silcox. I write about Microsoft Purview, information protection, and data security architecture.

Most of what you'll find here is technical. MIP SDK integrations, custom sensitive information types, automation tools for Exchange Online, the problems that emerge at the boundary between what the documentation promises and what the platform actually does. If you're implementing Purview and running into things the docs don't cover, this is probably useful to you.

What I Do

I architect and implement data security programs on Microsoft Purview for organizations in finance, healthcare, and legal (and more). The work usually includes:

• Purview implementation and architecture
• Custom MIP SDK development for third-party DLP integration
• Automated sensitive data discovery across M365 workloads
• Compliance-driven information protection design
